'City In Flux - Behind the Surface of Bradford' is a collection of pieces which displays different aspects of the city of Bradford in the UK in order to show that these are what make the city what it is.
The main focus for the project looked at how cities are usually labelled or known for certain aspects/commodities and how most people don't look past this surface in order to see the city for what it really is.
The reason for choosing Bradford as the topic for my work on was for a few reasons. One of them being it is my home town and so I'm more familiar with its history and heritage, but also because in the past few decades it has gained a bad reputation due to a number of things (e.g. the de-industrialisation of the city, meaning its mills becoming abandoned & the 2001 Bradford Riots) and I wanted to take people's focus away from them things and portray the city's positive side and show what it truly means to myself and a whole lot of other people who live in the city.
The still pieces of work portray different areas of the city, trying to show its "surface" and also what lies behind it. The stop motion animation looks into how the city has changed over several decades & also explains how Bradford is currently known for things such at its film aspect (being the UNSECO City of Film), however its cultural commodities along with many others aren't as apparent.
